Homework for October 13, 2011

In our class on Tuesday, we looked at audience as one of the elements of good writing and its importance in writing. In connection with this, we talked about formal and informal registers / styles in English and the characteristics of each. We did an exercise in distinguishing between fomal and informal language.

GROUPS A1 and B1
For homework, you have been given a handout with two exercises in writing formal and informal letters. Please, bring the completed handout with you to class on Thursday.

GROUP B1

Besides formal and informal language, we also quickly looked at prewriting techniques. To practice a couple of those techniques, you are to do ex. A and B on p. 16 on brainstorming and an exercises on clustering on p. 18.
